Mohamed Al Zawawi

Libyan satirical artist and cartoonist.  He was born on the outskirts of Benghazi in 1936. He studied at Al-Abyar Boarding School until the fourth primary school (in 1951, and graduated in 1956 with a fourth primary certificate). He is considered one of the most important caricature artists in Libya

Work

  • Worked as a Cartoonist in the audiovisual department of the Ministry of News and Guidance from 1961 to 1963
  • At the beginning of his life, he worked as a cartoonist in Benghazi and when he moved to Tripoli in 1963, he worked as a cartoonist and a journalistic director for the magazine “Radio” in Tripoli, and on its pages, he formed the first satirical painting.

Additional Information

He died on Sunday, June 5, 2011 in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, at the age of 76. The death occurred as a result of a stroke in the heart when the artist was writing his first lines for his unfinished drawing, which led to him falling from his chair, and his death
